THE EFFECTS OF 2020 - 2021 PANDEMIC CONDITIONS ON THE PROSTHETIC HAIR INDUSTRY

THE EFFECTS OF 2020 - 2021 PANDEMIC CONDITIONS ON THE PROSTHETIC HAIR INDUSTRY

As it is known, both our country and the world are faced with a rare social and economic crisis, which causes deaths on the one hand, and on the other, negatively affects the socioeconomic order of billions of people.

Our economy has been adversely affected by the new type of corona virus (Covid-19) epidemic as well as our health. This disease, which spread rapidly all over the world, was classified as a Pandemic (epidemic) by the World Health Organization on March 11 2020, and as a result of the preventionss taken against the epidemic, production activities all over the world showed a serious slowdown and many sectors were severely damaged by this situation.

At this point, the prosthetic hair and hair reforming sector has also received its share from this negative picture, and both prosthetic hair users and prosthetic hair centers that procure and apply prosthetic hair have faced some problems that they were not prepared for.

These problems, which catch the whole sector off guard, are;

  1. "Significant price increases" due to the reduction of production by almost half all over the world and also with the effect of additional taxes on imports-based products within the scope of Pandemic preventions.
  2. Again, "not being able to find prosthetic hair ready for delivery" due to the huge decrease in production activities within the scope of global pandemic preventions.
  3. The great decline in production quality and naturally “producers who can not meet the expectations”.
  4. Especially in the production of foreign-dependent products (which, unfortunately; the prosthetic hair sector is 100% dependent on foreign production and based on imports), the massive global contraction in the workforce and the accumulation of high-level measures taken in customs entry and exit as a natural result of the measures taken within the scope of Pandemic measures. and due to workload, “Increasing the durability of prosthetic hair”. While these periods last for 2 - 2.5 months for personal custom made systems, now it is approximately 5 - 6 months.

Will this situation continue like this, will we, the workers of the prosthetic hair and hair reforming sector, be able to solve these problems? You know that sentence we see and hear everywhere “EVERYTHING WILL BE NORMAL” is real? Will everything really go back to normal like old times?

These problems are of course difficult and big problems for both prosthetic hair users and those who apply and sell prosthetic hair systems.

First of all, we think that this situation is unlikely to improve in the short term. Because; There is no established manufacturing sector for hair prosthesis within the borders of our country (just like almost rest of the World) yet. For this reason, the sector is completely foreign-dependent in terms of production, as mentioned above, it is a sector based on 100% import. In parallel with the positive results we will get from the works carried out against the pandemic on a global scale, we hope that our industry will be in order with the whole world as of the new year.
